The Science of The Subconscious

What is the science behind subconscious programming and reprogramming? For a girl who needs structure (and is sometimes one way or the highway) is there a healthy breakdown between both: uncovering why we aren’t getting the things we want and programming the things we do want?

Our lives are simply evidence of all of our beliefs about ourselves. Whether we like certain things in our lives or not, it all comes down to our subconscious programs and what we believe is possible. From the ages of 0-7, we are literally walking subconscious minds - our brains are operating exclusively in alpha and theta states and we are taking in everything around us - learning not only things like how to tie our shoes or eat, but also if it’s safe to express ourselves, if money is easy to come by, and other things that can affect us in massive ways later in life without us even realizing it.

Traditional talk therapy focuses on the past - why we are the way that we are, trying to explain it, make sense of it, understand it. And while I think that’s highly beneficial and helpful when trying to heal, I also think we can get caught up in focusing too much on the past. After a certain point, you want to focus on where you’re headed, what you want for your future - and that’s where coaching and subconscious work comes in. While true change requires our subconscious and conscious minds to work together, the magic happens when we focus on the subconscious, because we can implant and rewrite exactly what we want in there, which will make the conscious actions we take feel easy and effortless. Trying to make a big change or shift without considering the subconscious is almost like trying to drive with your foot on the brake. You will only get so far. And through rewriting these programs, we not only create the life we desire, we also heal the younger version of ourselves, which is such a beautiful thing. We get to show up for our inner child, taking the lessons from these beliefs that aren’t serving us, and then embodying a more fully formed, fully expressed us.

An example I love to give to clients on how healing a small limiting belief from childhood can massively impact your present is a belief I had about my voice. I was the youngest of three girls and remember always being called annoying, constantly being told I was too loud and obnoxious, and to be quiet. Because of this, I had a big problem showing up and taking up space later in life, I was incredibly self conscious about my voice, public speaking, and struggled for a bit to fully express myself. But once I healed this through hypnosis and reprogramming, I felt so free to be me, to show up and take up space, and now sharing my thoughts and speaking to people is essentially my career and I’m literally able to help heal others with the sound of my voice. It’s so wild. Little Lorilynn was not annoying, she was full of life and excitement and had things to share.

Honestly, the single most freeing thing I’ve learned in my adult life is that we can literally create our own reality. If you desire something, if you see something for yourself, if you have dreams, they’re literally already yours on some level - you just have to align with them, become the person who has them — because there is a version of you out there who has it all already. Without going too deep, time is a construct - there are countless realities that you can simply align with and the only thing standing in your way is the belief you can have it. So that’s where I position myself with clients - helping them realize and remove anything that isn’t that which they desire, anything that doesn't align with their dreams - beliefs, patterns, thoughts, habits. Creating the freedom to consciously step into who they’ve always been.
